World Cup
It has hit me, the world cup fever that is. I did not know that it was going to be this great of a challenge for many of the soccer teams, but as you probably already know there has been many matches that ended up in a tie. It only shows that there are more cities, countries and entire continents that play this great sport. go to www.fifa.com for the standings and more.Website Re-Design
I have been thinking about re-designing www.javivilchis.com website for over 1 year. Due to the amount of work I have(thank GOD) I have not been able to even start with the process. I will begin soon by squeezing it in my schedule and hopefully soon I can show my new look. It is exciting to finally make the idea public for stimulation sake.Older Browsers
According to W3schools.com there are users that are still browsing with Internet Explorer 6(IE6) which is one of the browsers that gave most of us a head ache when coding. It had been about 4 years since the release of IE7 which targeted the flaws and leaks from IE6. A year ago IE8 was released with the intent to correct the flaws from IE7. In my months of creating websites with XHTML/CSS for IE8, I noticed that there are some characteristics that remind me of IE6 which made it frustrating for me because now I would have to create some patches for my websites in order to show well in all of the IE browsers which makes my life more difficult. If there were people only using IE7 and 8 it would make life much easier and less complex for us that have to create these wonderful websites. Another way is to stop caring about IE6 and making the viewers move to more recent browsers. Take a look at the statistics by W3schools.com People, please stop using IE6 and move to the new era!A day before my B-day
I cannot believe that a year has gone by, I am very happy with my achievements this past year. I have done work for many SMBs in the metroplex and I can only say thank you all. I have been coding and using .NET as well as PHP. I am getting ready to start learning RoR ( Ruby on Rails) and start to do more SQL alimentation. I have so many plans ahead that excites me to think about them. I want to develop more exciting things in the FLAR code as well as anything else that makes me an innovator. That is all I have for now and I will try to write more often. Thanks for a great year and God Bless us all.Election Day
Today I am not going to write about the election. Today i am going to tell you about something that has affected me personally. One of my coworkers has a 12 year old daughter who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Over 80% of the children with this type of tumor do not live more than 18 months after being diagnosed. This young girl is being treated with 2 kinds of radiation and chemotherapy that has never been used on children before. She is at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. She and her family live in Chicago, so the expenses not covered by insurance are adding up quickly. A website has been established to let people know about Brianna, her illness, and what you can do to help. Please visit www.curebrianna.com and if you can't do anything else, at least sign her guestbook and send her a good message, include her in your prayers and tell everyone you know about her.On the day after our country's election of a new President, let's take a moment to think about Brianna. Our countr is strong and will move on, but part of our future, a child, needs our help today.
Thanks - Jav
Flex 3 Good or Bad?
As everyone knows, there are many new programs out in the field, many are just revamps of every day use like CS3 the creative suite I mean. Recently flash came out in the professional suite with ActionScript 3 which focuses mainly in programming and making everything easier. Now, recently Flex 3 came out with many new implementations and easier to use. Mosto of the implementations are fixes from its previous version 2.0 which makes this tool very powerful when combined with Flash CS3 components and programs, I recomend to play around with this great program. However, I would look at the pros' and cons for this tool before using it for something heavy, I've seen sites that get hung because of the heavy backend code driving the site and it might slow down your computer...the answer about Flex 3 being good or not will be decided after you try it. So, check it out and just be patient with the mxml driven files read more here: http://flex.org/IE Bug
I know that many of designers and developers are having fun with all of the IE bugs, I personally had to deal with a disability of using flash in IE. ActiveX plays a major role in the infrastructure of this browser. For that, it does not play well with other media players like flash. If you want to interact with flash you will have to activate it first and then interact. However, you can bypass this by writting a simple AC_RunActiveContent.js or downloading the Flash Player Detection Kit from Adobe at: www.adobe.com you might have to create a user id but it is worth every minute, this kit will show you how to embed the flash and bypass the Active X controls. This kit is just to show how you can bypass it is not ready to deploy in a live page.
